Akshaya Tritiya


Akshaya Tritiya also known as Akha Teej, falls on the third day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the lunar month of Vaisakha (Baisakh) according to Hindu Calendar. Hindus consider it as one of the most auspicious day of the traditional Hindu calendar. 

Astologically it is believed that on this day Moon, Sun and Jupiter come under Mrigshira Nakashtra. Sun and Moon are in exalted positions on this day and they both glow at their brightest level, indicating the auspiciousness of the day.

Hindu’s consider these Lunar Days as most auspicious which are collectively called as Sade-Teen Muhurats (Hindu Electional Astrology).
  1st Day of Shukla Paksh of Chaitra, i.e. Gudi Padwa
  3rd Day of Shukla Paksh of Vaishakh, i.e., Akshaya Tritiya
 10th Day of Shukla Paksha of Ashvina, i.e., Vijayadashmi / Daserra
- & Half Muhurat is the  1st Day of Shukla Paksha of Kartikka, i.e, 1st day of Vikram Samvat Calendar, which is Gujarati New Year Day.

Why is it Important?
Akshaya Tritiya is considered as very auspicious day. The word ‘Akshaya’ in Sanskrit means everlasting / never diminishing / imperishable. According to Hindu Mythology:
1) it is the birthday of Parashuram, the 6th Avtar of Lord Vishnu. It is celebrated in Goa & Konkan region of Maharashtra.
2) it is believed that on this day Saint Vyas started dictating the epic Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha.
3) it is also believed that on this day Lord Krishna gave the ‘Akshaya Patra’ to the Pandavas during their exile. Akshaya Patra was a bowl which would produce food on demand and would never go empty.
4) it was on this day that Lord Krishna visited Sudama which is a known tale to us all.
5) Balaram Jayanti is also observed on this day. Lord Balaram is supposed to be the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu
6) it is also believed that on this day started the Treta Yuga, the 2nd out of the 4 ages of mankind and the holy river Ganga came down on earth from heaven.
7) it is on this day that Lord Kubera, lord of wealth, prays to Godess Laksmiji

Do What is Recommended on this Day?
It is recommended to workship Deity with gratitude so that we get Deity’s grace and blessings always.
It is believed any new activity started on this day will be beneficial. It is believed that whatever is bought on this day remains forever.
Buying long term valuables like gold, diamond, silver on this day is considered to bring in success and good fortune.
People start new ventures / business / relationships on this day as it is believed to grow and bring prosperity.
'The hand that Gives is the Hand that Gathers'. Charity done by means of donating food, money, umbrella, footwear, hand fan, clothes and other valuables to deserving or Brahmins on this day is very fruitful. The returns of the donations given on this day are infinite. 
It is believed that if  farmers workship soil with gratitude on this day and start sowing seeds on this day, the seeds give good harvest.
Trees planted on this day, grow in abundance.
Spiritual activities like doing Japa, Tapa, Hooma-Havan, ritual bathing is considered very beneficial on this day.
